Trained with Estep and Frenn back in 1980. George was still throwing but had not lifted seriously in nearly 10 years. Have a photo of him squatting 725 as if he was getting out of lounge chair. That easy he even had me spotting.
That 725 was with a skinny belt and some loose crepe bandages, tracks pants and USA T- Shirt.
Also got a chance to Train in Doc Rhodes garage.
Both guys super nice, real credit to the sport.
Thanks for putting that up, some very rare photos there.

True lifting, hardcore bare bones shit without all the gimmicks.

it’s nice to see some powerlifters who squatted below parallel in competition.

Let me say that when Jim Williams benched he was flat on the bench, no arch and the bar came to his chest. I saw him live in 1975 and was stunned at his size.
In 1986 I competed in the Natural Penna.State Powerlifting Championships held in Allentown, Pa by Fred Glass. I had trained hard and my squat was at 700, 420 bench and a 775 deadlift. These were my top training lifts. John Kuc was competing at my weight class, 242, and I felt I had a good shot at beating him. As we were warming up for the squat I saw Kuc squat 600 lbs with no belt, wraps or supersuit. He did 2 easy reps in a high bar style. I was so completely blown away that I ended up bombing out. Some of the guys in the video were super strong. Great memories.
