    If sumo is just as valid as conventional, how come it’s not permitted in strongman ?

    Sumo is cheating ! Everyone knows that! If u ar doing sumo deadlift in the gym lifting the same weight as the one using conventional dead’s, u ar surely weaker than the one doing conventional deadlifting !

    Your fans, sumo deadlifts, people that discredit sumo deadlifts. Raw lifters, equiped lifters, people in general. Candito’s fans, people that do Smolov, you know what I’m saying.

    Regarding sumo vs conventional, it’s obvious people choose sumo simply due to preference, not for superiority. The growing respect among powerlifters is wonderful. But to toss respect around so liberally means the intentional bullshitters are accepted too- and that’s a reason the communities are split. Boundaries and judgement are necessary to determine standards. The rules keep us alive and in order. Otherwise you’re just lowering the bar and soon catbacks on a deadlift will be a sport.

    I’d rather a discussion on the PL “squat”. It’s only the top 1% that can really justify such a grotesque position/stance and ALL of them are equipped. Looking at WL, these folks are as often as not squatting three times bodyweight. Mart Seim is probably the best example; he’s squatting 900 lbs raw/highbar/ATG. The PL “squat” stance is a crutch for weak people. Go to a weightlifting gym and there’s someone your same bodyweight squatting more than you HB/ATG. Same goes for DL though; there’s a weightlifter your bodyweight conventionally DL more than you can sumo. Powerlifting seems like a joke when you look at weightlifting, not the lifts themselves but the way PLers are weaker than weightlifters, even though they manipulate the ROM to reduce it so drastically.
