POWERLIFTER Does FRAN (Crossfit Workout) For The First Time

April 7, 2017 by warrioradmin 35 Comments

After years of training like a Powerlifter/Bodybuilder I decided to change things up and try Crossfit. 1 month into that journey I was introduced to FRAN. A classic Crossfit workout that is largely considered one of the best measures of fitness in the community. Having never tried it, and being new to Crossfit, I thought I would share my experience with everyone.

DEPRESSION SCREENING TEST:

My Story

My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a vaccine called VIVITROL and consequently spiraled into a major, agitated, suicidal depression with depersonalization. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who along with many siblings and friends had to watch me 24/7 as I was so suicidal. I was eventually hospitalized. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI’s SNRI’s Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last year and 10 months, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor.

I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time!

That looks like some hard work right there. Good for you! Keep after it and I hope it knocks out that depression. Exercise is good for the soul they say. I’m sure I’d have bowed out after the first set. Cheers to you, good sir!

Fran sucks! As a person that has dealt with depression as well, totally relate to what you said as far as staying active equates to staying balanced. Nice vid my man.

Good for you Bro. At least you’re open minded enough to try new things so for that, I applaud you. I’m also used to doing bodybuilding style workout but in the last couple of years I have been incorporating crossfit movements as well. I also find that I’m quite stiff in the shoulders so doing thrusters is a little harder for me than the guys that can rack it on their shoulders. Have you found ways to loosen the stiff shoulders?

Hey man, your videos are great! I’ve just had ACL reconstruction and want to get back to playing rugby in 12 months. I am at a small gym now but can’t really afford the crossfit memberships fees, is it a viable option to do WOD’s and substitute some movements that are limited for some that can be done? Would appreciate your help! Keep up the good work!!

Did Crossfit for about 3 years but never trained to do strict pullups.  Wish that I had, because I still can’t do a pullup today!

If you try Fran without any foreknowledge it’s the worst. First time doing it I was done for the day. 8:50… Second time I did it I went around 6:00. Next time was 4:11. Then it was 3:40. Just tested it again did it at 2:37. This was all within two years. Crossfit works!!

Very nice, do you experience pain in your elbows or shoulders? Because in squad your catch position, the elbow is pointing down and at pullups they are going out of the line… no your shoulders, they are well… just the elbows… maybe you correct this already… good job!

You rock dude. I too suffer from depression and admire your willingness to share that with me and the world. I am a crossfitter Fran has kicked my ass. Your time and work was impressive, what was more impressive was your courage to share your illness. The way you shared it, as if you just stubbed you toe, makes me feel a little more normal. Thank you.
