I cant workout because i have a comp tomorrow. I have to watch this to stop myself.
Good and informative video! I’m a 30 year old man with a skinny man build (5’9 at 160lbs). Decided I was tired of being a toothpick and started Slamming the weights. I’m going for bulk and not so much tone. I’ve watched countless videos and read a good amount of forums with questions you would find prolly amusing. What to eat, when do I increase weights, why am I losing power somedays. You get the idea….I’ve learned much and LOVE hitting the iron now!
I’m on the stronglift 5×5 program. Is this enough volume? I get that overall his point is that volume is king, I just don’t really know what the ideal amount of volume is. I am getting stronger, but I think it’s just my mind-muscle connection and muscle activation because I haven’t gained weight yet (been on it for almost a month).
I’m very happy to get stronger, I just want to be bigger too, I’m that typical 130 lbs skinny guy.
Finally, a well edjucated person who knows what significance means… It means that the difference… change… etc.. is not due to chance! It does not mean that there is a big difference! Thnx for sharing that with people! 😉
Awesome video, just one question:Will i be able to build any serious muscle on lets say, powerlifting to win novice program, versus a hypertrophy one?Im a novice and im doing canditos linear at the moment, but i really like deadlifting/squatting and i would like to do it more often in order to improve my lifts.
Does anyone know what the training level of the subjects used was? The abstract just says “seventeen young men”.
Not dogging, but Rippetoe’s criticism of *some* sports related science in PP suggests that accurate conclusions can’t really be generated from using untrained individuals because of the novice effect.
Were the subjects intermediate or more, the knowledge is very useful. If they were effectively weight room untrained, then as I’m sure we’ve all experienced, lifting weights for 3reps or 20 reps the first few months makes some massive differences either way.
All I heard was mouth diarrhea of some studies regurgitating studies . Nothing specific or a straight forward advice. Next time you interview this guy tell him to hold the coffee and maybe give some useful info. Thanks.
hey dude, nice video. Can you make a video clearing up if number of reps actually matter? What if you were to do 5 slower reps to stimulate the muscle more, instead of 10 quick reps for example in a squat. In that case, would ’10 reps’ be necessary? or would it be the same as 5 slow reps for hypertrophy. Would it work if you were to stay in a 3-5 rep range, but making sure you stimulate through the whole ROM and squeeze the muscle for hypertrophy? Plus, would it matter if I get the same volume with more reps per set and less sets, or with more sets and less reps per set?PLEASE CLEAR THIS UP 🙁
Okay. I’ve toned and built a little, but I’ve been going for two years and little progress. Do I train to failure or how will I tell if I worked my muscles enough? Should I go until I’m sore af? Built basic muscle and pretty big legs, but that’s it. Constantly hear go to failure and don’t go to failure.
